Work Experience

Student Worker (05.2008 - 05.2009)
Employer Infomation Science Institute, University of Southern Calfornia
Marina Del Rey, CA, USA
Type Part-Time/Work Study
Duty - Hardware Test and Cutomization
  - Front-end System software development

At ISI, I worked as a member of Satellite Sensor Gateway (SSG) project. Further extended from its name, this project is aimed for provide reliable, easy-to-use systems for long-term remote sensing. I started this position as a hardware technician: measuring and analyzing power consumption, building up broad-level circuit. After that, I was responsible to develop network controllable drivers on Gumstix (PXA Embedded Processors, run with Embedded Linux) to control Campbell Datalogger CR10X and CR1000. This is really a fantastic work experience for me, because I can integrate my hardware background I learned in Taiwan and the network programming skill I learned in USC. Moreover, in order to develop the driver of CR1000, I need to implement PakBus, which is the latest standard widely applied in the products of Campbell Scientific Inc. After getting through there works, I believe I become a well-rounded engineer with matured industrial development skill.

Teaching Assistant (08.2006 - 07.2007)
Employer

ECE Dept. National Chiao Tung University

Hsinchu City, Taiwan
Type Full-Time
Duty - Working with: Mr. Yi-Kai Wang
  - Lab Course Adjunct Lecturer and Lab Administrator

It is often said that you never fully learn something until you teach to someone else, and I have come to develop a greater appreciation for this. Working as a joint lecturer in two major ECE lab courses for juniors ¡V Electronic Lab III and Control Lab ¡V I regularly elucidate the principles, properties, and functions of each experimental circuit. This is not an easy task, but it has forced me to develop a more sophisticated and detailed understanding of Electronics and Linear Control Systems.

Employer

ECE Dept. National Chiao Tung University

Hsinchu City, Taiwan

After honorably discharged from National Army, I joined a research group of Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), one of the most significant research institutes in Taiwan. Our team is focuses on the development of the robot fish, and its multiple applications, such as home security and entertainment. My job is to establish a reliable platform for the interaction between robot fish and users. After significant effort for several months, this platform is proved that it worked perfectly and I have also gained some basic experience in the development of intelligent machines.

Network Engineering Officer, 2nd Lieutenant (07.2004 - 12.2005)
Employer

National Army, Taiwan

Type Compulsory Military Service (Reserved Officer)
Duty - Computer System Engineer, Server Administrator

- CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) Leader

After graduate from college, I served in the National Army. I was assigned to a combat unit as Network Engineering officer and CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) Leader. I needed to study more about network administration and internet security. In many difficult situations, such as carrying out missions with insufficient supplies and equipments, an elementary officer needs more than his professional knowledge. He also needs to know how to lead his men to accomplish missions and how to gain fine interaction with his superiors. These topics seem more important than the professional knowledge in my position. Even though I delay my study for two years in order to fulfill my obligation of military service, I think it is deserved because of the experiences in stress management, communications, and administration. These experiences might be more beneficial for future journey of my life.
