First semester's non-linear aggregations studio incorporated VBS based rhinoscripting as a parametric tool to articulate the design of a multidisciplinary "Bach Research Institute" in Downtown Los Angeles. Based on the way Bach wove together "voices" in his fugues, the agent script I developed grew based on attraction thresholds to other agents and to attractor points. The site acted as a set of forces acting on the growth of the agents, influencing their path. These agents were then adapted into a structural set of tubes with aluminum casing. Below are many iterations of the projects evolution, and the final presentation video.
My spring 2010 study abroad semester in Italy featured a studio project that explored housing and studio space for our own USC program in Como, Italy. Located above Roman and Gothic ruins, this design took the concept of erosion as a means of exposing the ruins underneath. The core of the building is eroded to allow sunlight to penetrate the ruins below. A distorted grid was applied to set up an ordering system for the walls and floors and A snaking stair emerges out of the ruins and brings the public to a cafe on the roof.
