The Center for Christian Social Holiness...

...emerged out of the desire of a handful of scholars, urban ministers, students, seminarians, and friends to see a forum develop that would advocate the academic reflection of Christian social ethics as well as the actual practice and work of Christian social ethics.

Working primarily from a Wesleyan theological perspective, and influenced by the tradition of the Church of the Nazarene, the Center for Christian Social Holiness is working to accomplish three things:

  1. Build networks of people concerned with living Christians holiness,
  2. Promote Nazarene and Wesleyan scholarship in social ethics, and
  3. Create opportunities for Christian social & communal action.

Current and future activities of the Center Include

Tea and Resistance.

Groups meet monthly or bimonthly in San Diego and Pasadena to discuss and address practical questions of social concern and holiness.

Nazarene Studies.

Participate in group projects that focus on particular aspects of Nazarene history. Use the resources of the Center participants to help direct your own academic projects or programs. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of Christian formation and discipleship as well as social ministry in the Church of the Nazarene.

Social Actions.

Keep posted on particular actions as some Center associates will be participating in actions including rallies, forums, protests, boycotts, and prayer gatherings.

Order of Saint Stephen.

Taken from the history annals of the church of the Nazarene, the O.S.S. is an affiliation of persons who commit to pursuing holiness together with others through through a particular rhythm of compassion, service, devotion, reflection, confession, and hospitality. Contact the Center for more information

Peace of Christ.

The Center is still actively looking for ways to practice and promote non-violence and peace making, and to support others who do.

Nazarene Compassion Coalitions

The Center seeks to aid Nazarene Churches of the same geographical zones in building coalitions to help bridge gaps between urban and suburban congregations, rich and poor congregations, and congregations of different races and ethinicities and cultures.

Currently, the Center consists of an informal network of resources and friends. There are soon plans to begin posting different forms of related scholarship on this web site. Right now you can find reviews of particular events and actions as well as find a regular posting of upcoming events. Please feel free to Email with your input or contribution.

Though located in a particular tradition, the center affirms the catholicity of the Christian Church and also welcomes an interfaith dialogue.

The Center for Christian Social Holiness advocates practicing and reflecting upon Christian Social ethics within the Wesleyan and Nazarene Traditions.
