Day 3: The dullness and beauty
of Tennessee

August 2, 2005
Knoxville, TN to Memphis, TN

It's not that today's drive wasn't beautiful. It just wasn't all that interesting. I crossed from eastern to western Tennesee. I saw lots of hills and trees. And again, more churches. I stopped in Nashville, about halfway between Knoxville and Memphis. It was OK. Pretty touristy, though.

Memphis was interesting. A lot of redevelopment, both downtown and at the waterfront. Both Beale Street (center of R&B clubs) and Main Street seemed oddly empty when I was there.

Unfortunately, the Center for Southern Folklife had closed. Too bad because it looked like it had a lot of cool crafts. The best part of the day was watching the sun set over the Mississippi River.

These are all 35mm pictures. They came out much better than digital.

Onward to Day 4>>>
