A look at Dorrell's five years as head coach.

2003

Dorrell's first season saw UCLA start out 6-2 before losing thier final five games, including a 47-22 loss to crosstown-rival USC. He took the Bruins to the Las Vegas Bowl where they lost to Fresno State in the Silicon Valley Football Classic 17-9.

2004

The Bruins finished the year 6-6. It looked like they had begun to gain momentum at the end of the season when they defeated Oregon on the road 34-26 and played well against top-ranked USC at home before losing 29-24. Whatever the Bruins gained from those two games was lost in the Las Vegas Bowl where the Bruins lost to Wyoming 24-21.

2005

UCLA jumped out to an 8-0 start to the regular season marked by an uncanny ability to come back from late deficits. They were down 21 points to Washington State on the road before winning in overtime 44-41. At Stanford, they trailed 24-3 with 8:26 remaining in the game before quarterback Drew Olsen and running back Maurice Drew led UCLA back and forced overtime. The Bruins would win 30-27.

However, the Bruins couldn't recover the next week when they fell behind unranked Arizona on the road. UCLA would go on to get blown out 52-14. They recoved the next week to defeat Arizona State before losing 66-19 to USC at the Coliseum.

Dorrell and the Bruins went on to win the Sun Bowl over Northwestern 50-38, Dorrell only bowl win.

2006

After an 11-2 season, much was expected of the Bruins, but they were average. After starting the season 4-1, they proceeded to lose four games in a row. The Bruins would win thier final three regular season games, including a 13-9 upset win over No.2 USC. With the win, the Bruins denied the Trojans a third consective trip to the a national championship game. It was Dorrell's highest moment as coach.

The Bruins couldn't build on the upset, losing to Flordia State in the Emerald Bowl 44-27.

2007

UCLA returned a veteran team to the field, led by a stingy defense. The Bruins began the season ranked No.11. They won their first two games before getting blown-out by an injury-depleted Utah team on the road 44-6. It appeared that the Bruins had rebounded after winning their next two games in convincing fashion. However, they then lost to 0-5 Notre Dame 20-6 at home, in a game that saw the Bruins' starting quarterback Ben Olsen and back-up Patrick Cowan leave the game with injuries. Injuries and inconsistency came to define the season. The Bruins finished the regular season 6-6 and Dorrell was fired. He elected not to coach when UCLA plays in the Las Vegas Bowl against BYU on Dec. 22. Defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker will coach in his place.
