Regarding the composition assignment for this week: I don't know anything about music. Could you tell me which tools would be good to use for the assignment? Hyperscore seemed a likely candidate, but there's no trial version. Can you recommend something?

You might try Impromptu at www.tuneblocks.com (software is free) ... this gives a gentle start to composing using tune blocks. The other option is to use Max/MSP, which requires some visual programming. The student version is under $100, and can be found at www-classes.usc.edu/engr/ise/582/2003/handouts. The equivalent resource in C++, called "improv" can be found at ccrma.stanford.edu/~craig
