Volunteering

Ever wonder what it would be like to work in a hospital as a health
professional?  Do you want to earn valuable volunteer experience in real-world
settings as a pre-health student?

Applications are currently being accepted for volunteering at USC University Hospital!

instructions

There are a total of 8 documents below, which includes the application packet to begin volunteering at USCUH. You must fill out 4 of these 8 documents to begin the application process. The other four documents are solely for your reference and they include important details about the process. You can turn in the forms directly to the Volunteer Services department on the first floor of USC University Hospital. There are volunteer orientations at the beginning of each month, so you can submit the volunteering applications anytime throughout the year.

You will also need to complete the hospital's health clearance, which includes a TB test. You can schedule a TB test at the USC Health Center, and it is free of cost. After your health clearance, you will need to obtain your badge and uniform. Once you begin volunteering, you can schedule shifts on any day of the week in four hour blocks (or you can split your shifts in two hour blocks if you cannot fit four hour blocks into your schedule). Furthermore, the intercampus shuttle can take you back and forth from the UPC and HSC campuses Monday through Friday from 7:15am to 5:55pm. The shuttle runs every half hour, and the exact times are listed on the USC Transportation website.

Volunteer placement may occur in any of the following settings: surgical information desk, admitting, medical/surgical units, intensive care units, physical and occupational therapy, gift shop, non-invasive vascular lab, marketing and public relations, nursing administration, and the concierge desk.

One of the unique benefits of being a USCUH volunteer is to have the option of watching surgeries performed at USCUH on Fridays after you complete 25 hours of volunteer work.
