My college life and advice:
Being a senior at USC I have learned a few things over the years about what college life is all about, especially the living situations. When I first arrived at USC my college dorm was a little different than I had expected.

For one thing, my room had bunk beds. Needless to say the first thing my roommate and I did was unstack them. There’s no way either of us would want to have to sleep on the top.
All the dorms I have even been in also come with computer desks. Not that they are any type of fancy office furniture, but they get the jobs done.
Another thing is don’t underestimate cheap laptops. There are a lot of websites selling inexpensive laptop computers that will work just as good as the more expensive ones.
Don’t forget vacuum cleaners! They will be very necessary for apartment/off campus living, but also for the dorm too. The only appliances that come with a dorm are a microwave and fridge (commonly know as the micro-fridge), so once you move off-campus you will need to purchase your own.

Another thing I would recommend bringing for the dorm is bottled water. The water from the sink faucets is not the best tasting.
Something I definitely recommend doing for the new freshman coming in is to get involved right from the start. Joining clubs is one of the best ways to meet people around here. Even if you just sign yourself up for an intramural sport, you are sure to make friends in no time.

Here are sites to take a look at:

I also help out on campus volunteering when I can. Last winter I helped with the annual coat drive. We collected over one hundred mens coats and womens coats that could be donated to people in need. It’s a really great cause and if you grab a few friends to help out if can be fun. You can find a cause that you would like to support on campus here:
