MPA (Public Administration) Committee
Mission
Enrich the graduate school experience of Public Administration candidates through peer and professional exposure to people in the public administration field. Also act as a liaison between candidates and faculty / staff to address academic concerns and coordinate events.
People
The MPA Committee takes pride in the fact that the MPA Program attracts a talented and diverse pool of candidates. In this committee, we have some great people and we encourage you to learn more about them.
Activities
As MPA Committee, we plan to undertake the following activities during the year:
- SPPD Peer Program - the SPPD Peers program aims at helping and assisting the incoming candidates by providing them with a Peer, i.e. a friend and peer mentor. As a part of this program, incoming candidates will be matched with a continuing candidate who has volunteered to be a Peer Mentor.
- Faculty / Staff Appreciation - we believe that faculty and staff at SPPD are vital to our graduate school experience and to reflect this we plan to organize a Faculty/ Staff appreciation event once a semester. This would also encourage greater interaction between candidates and faculty/ staff in an informal setting (outside the classroom).
- Academic Difficulty Forum - the MPA Committee aims to act as a liaison between the candidates and the school to address the academic difficulties / issues faced by the candidates. We would provide a communication platform to raise concerns of the candidates with the administration.
- Internship Database - the MPA Committee plans to work in collaboration with the Professional Development Committee to set up a database of past/ present internship connections. This will allow candidates to leverage the connections for possible internships as well as learn more about their experience in those internships.
- Community Service Activity - the MPA Committee plans to work in collaboration with the Non-Profit Committee to tap on to GPSS Funds and explore opportunities for doing community service including working with Habitat for Humanities, Blood Drives, and Sack Lunches at Venice.
- Social Activity - the MPA Committee plans to work in collaboration with the Social Committee and International Committee to provide social and informal avenues for greater interaction among the candidates. We plan to start "Get LAed" a once in a month social outing to explore different parts of Los Angeles.
- SC Xchange - the MPA Committee plans to develop a SPPD Community Exchange "SC Xchange" to provide a facility where candidates can exchange books and resources.
Involvement
The MPA Committee has an open door policy to any and all candidates who are interested. We'd be happy to talk with you about ways in which you could get involved with the MPA Committee.
