FAQs

Q: When's fencing practice?
A: Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:30 PM in the PED North Gym.

Q: Where is PED?
A: PED is that old, giant building in front of the entrance to the track field. It's also across the street from the bookstore. The gym we practice in is on the second floor of the building; from the main entrance (that is, the side facing the track field), the North Gym is all the way to the left.

Q: Do I have to know anything about fencing?
A: Nope. The vast majority of new members have never fenced before. We'll teach you guys from whatever level you come in at. If you have previous fencing experience, even better.

Q: What do I have to wear/bring?
A: Fencing is a very athletically demanding sport, so dress accordingly. Workout clothing (long pants if possible) and athletic shoes should do the trick. As far as equipment goes, we have all that for you if you don't have your own.

Q: Can I bring my roommate/friend?
A: Of course, they don't need to have signed up to come and we love new members!

Q: Are there try-outs for the team?
A: There are eventually but you don't have to compete if you don't want to. For those of you who would consider being on the team: there are try-outs, but don't worry about it til later.

Q: Does it cost money?
A: The first few practices are free. If after a while you decide fencing is something you'd like to stick with, there will be a small club fee (somewhere between $20 and 50$ a semester, I'm not quite sure how much). But don't worry about it, you'll know whether you'll want to stay.
