Rebecca Van Guilder takes 8th at LAIFC Invitational

-Congratulations to Rebecca Van Guilder who took 8th place in the Women's Epee Competition at LAIFC on September 4th, a B1 event.

USC Fencing Alum elected Vice Chair of USFA SoCal Division

-Adam Johnson, recent graduate and former President of USC Fencing, was elected Vice Chair of the Southern California Division of United States Fencing. Adam is looking forward to this new role and hopes to maintain strong ties with his collegiate roots. For more information on the SoCal Division, click here.

Fencers represent USC in European Collegiate Competition

-Sabre Fencers Tiffany Dell'Aquila, Lark Arrowood, and Ope Osoba who travelled to London, England for the 2006 London International Universities Fencing Cup (LIUF) at University College London on June 3rd-4th. Collegiate fencers came from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and the United States. Ope Osoba captured 6th place in the Sabre Competition, losing a tough quarterfinal bout to the competition champion Danny Ryan, captain of the Cambridge University Men's Sabre Team. Tiffany Dell'Aquila represents USC at Div I NAC in Sacramento

-Congratulations to Tiffany Dell'Aquila who fenced in the Div I Women's Sabre competition at the North American Cup in Sacramento, CA on April 22nd. Tiffany's competition included an Olympic Bronze Medalist and nine of the top 10 Women's Sabre fencers in the United States. For photos, click here

USC Fencers compete at Inaugural Okawa Open

-Trojans headed to Westwood on April 15th for the 2006 Okawa Open at UCLA, in honor of Maestro Heizaburo Okawa. Hao Lin, Adam Johnson, and Tiffany Dell'Aquila competed in the Open Foil, Epee and Sabre, and Tiffany took 3rd place overall from her placement in the Sabre and Epee competitions. Trojan fencer qualifies for 2006 Summer Nationals in Men's Epee

-Congratulations to Adam Johnson who qualified for Div II Men's Epee and auto-qualified for Div III Men's Epee at Chaminade Middle School on April 9th. Combined with his results from the previous week, this makes four events Adam has qualified for in Summer Nationals Quals.

Rebecca Van Guilder fences at PCS Event

-Congratulations to Rebecca Van Guilder who competed at the 2006 Palm Desert Open at the College of the Desert on April 9th. Rebecca took 11th in this A1 rated event.

USC Fencers qualify for 2006 Summer Nationals

-Congratulations to Rebecca Van Guilder, Tiffany Dell'Aquila, Hao Lin, and Adam Johnson, who competed in the Div II/III Summer Nationals Qualifiers in Women's Foil, Women's Sabre, and Men's Foil on April 2nd at Pasadena City College. Rebecca qualified for Div III and earned her E06 in foil, Tiffany for Div II, and Adam qualified for Div II and auto-qualified for Div III. For photos from the event, click here

USC Fencing bids farewell to Cristina Lichtenberger

-Cristina Lichtenberger, a competitor for USC and an assistant coach in foil and epee, will be returning to Northern California where she grew up. We will miss her skill and her kindness (and her bagels!). Cristina, you will always have friends at the USC.

Tiffany Dell'Aquila WINS Division III Women's Sabre Title at North American Cup in Reno, NV

-Congratulations to Tiffany Dell'Aquila, USC Women's Sabre captain, who took 15th in the Div II Women's Sabre and captured the Gold Medal in the Div III Women's Sabre at the NAC on March 11th, 2006 in Reno Nevada. Tiffany earned her C06 in the competition, her very first North American Cup. For a photo from the event, click here

2006 USC Linkmeyer Invitational sees strong turnout, Gold Medal for Trojan Fencer

-This year's USC Linkmeyer Invitational Tournament saw 190 fencers from as far away as Arizona and Nevada (and even guests from Oregon and the Capitol Division) fence in the Open Epee, Foil, Sabre and Women's Epee competitions on March 4th, 2006. First places went to Jesse Carlson in Epee, Isaac Kim in Foil, Paul Hicha in Sabre and USC's very own Rebecca Van Guilder in Women's Epee, earning her C06. For results and photos, click here

Season Closer at UC Irvine sees USC picking up medals

-USC Women's Sabre captured 3rd place for the '05-'06 season at the NCAA v. Club event at UC Irvine on February 25th. Tiffany Dell'Aquila won an additional award for individual placing in women's sabre throughout the season. For photos, click here

USC Epeeists grab half of top 6 places at Orange Coast Event

-Congratulations to Kathy Vilnrotter, Scott Simon, Rebecca Van Guilder, and Adam Johnson, who competed in the Open Foil and D Epee at Cal State University Long Beach on February 19th. Rebecca, Scott and Adam took 3rd (tie), 5th, and 6th respectively in the Epee competition and Rebecca renewed her E in epee. For photos, click here

Tiffany Dell'Aquila competes in 2006 Junior Olympics

-Congratulations to Tiffany Dell'Aquila who fenced in the Junior Women's Sabre competition at the 2006 Junior Olympics in Hartford, CT on February 18th. Tiffany was among the top three finishes from Southern California in this A2 event. For photos, click here

Trojans take on Club Schools at UC Santa Barbara

-In the third IFCSC team event of the season, USC faced off against UCLA, UCSB, and ASU at Santa Barbara on February 12th. Difficult victories mixed with close defeats as the club school fencers faced off for the second time in the season. For photos, click here

USC Fencers travel to Arizona for 2006 West Coast Collegiate Invitational

-In our first ever trip out of California, our team of 21 Trojan fencers competed in six events at the 2006 West Coast Collegiate Invitational at Arizona State University. Our competition included teams from UC Berkeley, Arizona State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UCSD, UCLA, University of Florida, University of Wyoming, UC Irvine, University of Colorado at Boulder, UC Santa Cruz, and Temple University in Philadelphia. Our women's sabre team, trying to repeat as WCCI champions, faced tough competition in pools but took 3rd overall after a hard-fought victory over Temple. Some memorable highlights included Scott Simon losing only a single epee bout on the entire weekend, Darryl Hwang coming back to win bouts for USC in Men's Sabre, Rebecca Van Guilder fencing back to back days on the Women's Foil and Epee Teams, our Men's Foil Team getting several decisive victories despite the loss of their team captain mid-season to a nasty car accident, Adam Hsieh winning a crucial clutch victory to push Men's Epee up in the standings, some terrific fencing by our second epee squad of John Leisure, Adam Johnson, and Jon Wingo, and an amusing team dinner at Organ Stop Pizza. USC Quartet heads to Santa Barbara for USFA Event

-Congrats to Kathy Vilnrotter, Rebecca Van Guilder, Tiffany Dell'Aquila, and Adam Johnson, who competed in the D Foil, C Epee, and Open Sabre Competitions at UC Santa Barbara on January 22nd. All fenced well, with Kathy and Tiffany earning their E06 in Foil and Sabre respectively and Adam renewed his E in foil. For photos, click here

Tiffany Dell'Aquila qualifies for Junior Olympics

-Congratulations to Sabre Fencer Tiffany Dell'Aquila who qualified for the 2006 Junior Olympics to be held in Hartford, Connecticut in February. Tiffany qualified for the Under 20 Women's Sabre Competition, coming in 2nd place in the Southern California qualifiers.

Trojan Fencers Compete at Couturier Open

-Congrats to Tiffany Dell'Aquila, Stacy Lin and Rebecca Van Guilder who competed in the Women's Sabre and C Foil competitions at the 2005 Couturier Open on November 19th.

USC Fences Club Schools at UCLA

-USC Fencing headed across town to compete against UCLA, Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara on November 12th. Several of our fencers surprised themselves with outstanding performances and our Women's Sabre Team went undefeated on the day. To see photos from the tournament, click here

IFCSC Unveils New Website

-The Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California's website has moved to http://www.ifcsc.org

Intercollegiate Season Begins with Tournament at Caltech

-USC took on the NCAA Fencing Teams at Caltech on November 5th, competing against Cal State Fullerton, Caltech, UC San Diego and the club program of UC Irvine. Our teams achieved some hard-fought victories and our newer fencers got a first taste of IFCSC competition. To see photos from the event, click here

2005 Homecoming Festival a Great Success

-On October 29th, USC Fencing hosted a booth at the Homecoming Festival, greeting friends and alums and selling our patented foam Tommy Swords. If you missed us this year, come find us at the 2006 Homecoming Festival! To see photos from the event, click here

USC Fencing heads to UC Irvine Collegiate Invitational

-On October 3rd, 23 USC Fencers headed to Irvine for the annual Collegiate Invitational, an individual tournament in all weapons. Yann Staelens captured 1st in Men's Epee and 3rd in Men's Foil, Jen Hollcroft took 3rd in Women's Sabre, Tiffany Dell'Aquila took 7th in Women's Sabre and Rebecca Van Guilder brought home 8th in Women's Epee. Among our newer fencers, Hao Lin and Jon Wingo took 2nd and 3rd place for Novice Foil and Novice Epee, respectively. To see photos from the tournament, click here

Trojans Compete at Long Beach Invitational

-Congratulations to Scott Simon, Rebecca Van Guilder, Yann Staelens and Kathy Vilnrotter who competed in the first Pacific Coast Section tournament of the season on October 1st and 2nd at CSU Long Beach. Scott, Rebecca, Yann and Kathy fenced in the Open and Women's Epee and Open and Women's Foil respectively and Yann walked away with 3rd place in the Foil.

USC Welcomes Fencers from Great Britain

-On Monday, September 19th, USC Fencing had the great pleasure of meeting (and fencing) 8 members of the Fencing Team from Keele University in Staffordshire, England. The fencers, who had been touring California for a few weeks, were a treat to fence and our two squads had a great time getting to know each other. For photos, click here
