A special treat for Leavey Library all-nighters: Trojan Grounds is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The coffeehouse, located on the bottom floor of Birnkrant Residential College, right next to Leavey Library, began its 24-hour open-door policy Monday.

Sam Gordon, president of the Undergraduate Student Government, said the idea to expand Trojan Ground's hours originally came from the students, who brought it to the attention of the student government.

"This summer, I met with all the administrators that I could," Gordon said. "We talked about a lot of different things, like improvements on campus food. The original idea was to open Trojan Grounds 24 hours a day for finals week only."

Project 24/7
Amanda Custer, assistant director of university affairs, said the Trojan Grounds project was picked up by TrojanHospitality, which pushed for the coffeehouse to be open through finals week and next semester as well.

"This is a giant leap forward for us, because we weren't sure that we could have Trojan Grounds open for 24 hours through next semester," Custer said. "Now Hospitality is funding it, and we definitely have an open coffeehouse for next semester. There's no 24-hour coffee place on campus, and it would be a good experience for students to have during finals week."

John Thacker, director of TrojanHospitality, said he has already received good feedback about the expanded hours.

"Some people told me that they were desirous of a 24-hour operation on campus," said Thacker, who has worked at USC for a month. "As an avid coffee-drinker myself, it occurred to me that we needed a go-to place for students. Trojan Grounds immediately came to mind."

Previously, Trojan Grounds had been open from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
