Competition

The 2008 edition of the USC Swing Challenge features a Jack & Jill contest open only to college students. The judges for this competition are top of the notch pro Lindy Hoppers and the entry fee is only $5 per person. There will be medals for the top three leads and follows in each Jack and Jill contests and prizes. donated by our generous sponsors.

Eligibility to Compete
The contests are open only to amateur dancers currently enrolled as full time college/graduate students at a four year institution. Competitors will be required to show student ID and proof of current enrollment at the contest check-in on April 19th.

Space in the Jack and Jill is limited to 16 leads and 16 follows. Therefore we are limiting the number of participants from each school to a maximum of 2 couples for the Strictly Lindy contest and 2 leads and 2 follows. This limit will be relaxed as we get closer to the contest date, as long as space allows.

Registration and Entry Fees
Participant to the USC Jack and Jill need to preregister first, due to the limited number of slots for each schools. We will respond shortly to notify whether the spots requested are available or not, based on a first, come first served criterion. School clubs are encouraged, but not required to run trials in order to select the strongest competitors. Final registration and entry fee payment will be at the contest check in at Ground Zero (USC), on Sunday April 19, by 7pm. The contest preliminaries will start at 7:10pm. Notes and Special Rules
1. Our venue has a smooth concrete floor. It works fine with sueded as well as leather soled shoes (e.g. Aris Allen), but it might be hard on your knees.
2. Competitors will be randomly matched three different times in the prelims.
3. In the finals they will be randomly matched once and then judged as couples during three or four all skate song clips.
4. The number of couples in the final will be at most 5 and will depend on the initial number of participants to the contest. It will be 4, if the initial number of couples will be between 9 and 10. It will be 3, if the initial number of couples will be below 9. If less than 7 couples will enter the contest, the prelimins will skipped and all the participants will be admitted direcly to the final.
5. Judges will use the relative placement method to determine final rankings and winners.
6. Aerials are not allowed!
