For my project, I will be creating a multimodal sports website based on XHTML+Voice technology. XHTML+Voice, or X+V, is a combination of the XHTML and VoiceXML standards that allow developers to write pages that add speech recognition and text-to-speech to the standard visual Web interface. This technology allows for significantly improved user interface flexibility over conventional Web pages. Using the IBM Multimodal Browser plugin for Opera, I will create a sports site that will leverage the ability to use combinations of voice and visual input and output. For example, I will allow for voice queries such as ?What is the score of the Yankee game Also, I will develop a demonstration of a gamecast using text-to-speech in combination with the visual display to deliver a superior method of presentation. This system will provide a new level of interaction to this area with an interface that uses the best aspects of both speech and visual interfaces.
