This
system will direct the user to the exact location of a book,
in the libraries at USC at this moment, by showing the route
from the current spot on campus to the exact place where
the book is.
The
usual scenario would be:
1) The user inputs the Call numbers into the Book Locator
system. (the call numbers can be obtained from the result
of searching the book at Homer.)
[One of the result data from Homer for a book named Data Structure]
Call Numbers for: DOHENY
Z286.E3T47 2004 1 NONE 4WK/SEMSTR BOOKSTACKS
2) This system will use the call numbers to locate the book. It generate a series
of interactive maps which are zoomable to guide users to get the exact spot,
For example, with the call numbers above, it will show the overall map for the
building of Doheny library and by zooming up, it will specify the location to
the floor, to the stack, and to the column and row.
3) Additionally, the system will show the route from the current position of
a user who is on campus to the exact location of a book.
The
interface is all web-based. This system is independent from
the Homer website at this moment, and that is why the call
numbers should be entered manually, but later it can be embedded
in the homer system and used by users without entering the
call numbers.
