Most
trip planners nowadays offer two extreme choices, one of
which only include all the options for flights, rental cars,
and hotels, and activities, which leaves the planning completely
up to the user. Travel companies such as Orbitz or Travelocity,
for example, only offer specific, inflexible packages for
which the user has to conform to based only on the location.
Our
virtual trip planner, on the other hand, plans a complete
trip based on user preferences. The preferences can include
city of interest, dates of the trip, and activities of interest
(specific outdoor vs. indoor activities). Other preferences
such as maximum budget, and number of people, age group,
favorite foods, and lodging options would also be included.
Based on the chosen preference, the system will display various
options available matching the given criteria, from which
the user can make final choices. The system will include
a flexible itinerary that describes day-to-day and hour-by-hour
activities covering the trip from beginning to end.
