Announcements

12/16/2002

  • Anyone who retrieved their class project on Dec. 10th from a box in front of the classroom, please bring it to the final exam. Those projects had NOT been checked by Professor Jacobs. Those were projects left for Professor Jacobs to check this past weekend. More than a few of you have those projects in your possession. Please bring it with you Dec 17th to the final exam and hand it to the Professor, so that they can be graded accordingly.

12/12/2002

  • Reminder: Final exam is in SGM 124 from 7pm - 9pm PST 12/17/2002. Two hours. All L.A.-based students must drive in to take the final.
  • Previous final exams will not be posted, however the midterms (taken and posted) are good samples of Professor Jacobs' testing style.

12/10/2002

  • Please check the team projects link to see that your project URL is there. If not posted yet, please send Deepa the URL or PPTs, latest by 12/11

12/03/2002

  • For students who had a question about the submission of project materials; it is sufficient to submit ONE hardcopy of all your project materials, and the Professor, TA and Grader will timeshare the copy to grade your project

Final Exam hints

  • Comprehensive exam
  • Covers what was lectured
  • May include videos [except video on 11/12/02---extra credit video review
    already completed]
  • Emphasis on notes rather than text
  • Like midterm in style of questions
  • Know terminology

11/27/2002

  • Missing class notes pages from Chapter 4 are NOW available on the DEN notes web site

11/25/2002

  • This announcement is to clarify some frequently asked questions on assignment 9.
  • For assignment #9, you do NOT need to conduct a survey like the previous assignment. A survey (e.g. QUIS survey) is just a tool for your team to use, to frame your study, analysis and questions for the system you will evaluate.
  • Once you are done evaluating your system, you can have a 3rd person or neutral user go over your results with you.

11/21/2002

  • Final Exam is in SGM 124, 7-9pm PST, Tuesday Dec. 17, 2002, for Campus and LA-based DEN students.

11/20/2002

  • The URLs of team projects and also team number lists is now active. Please have a look at it.
  • If your team URL is missing or project topic is missing from the member list, or any information is incorrect or missing, please email Deepa the necessary information ASAP.
  • Some teams have submitted PPTs instead of URLs. For them, I have posted the link to the PPTs (I am assuming their project is not online). If you wish to submit URLs or any new PPTs or other info, please do so before 11/26/2002, so that the page is duly updated

11/19/2002

  • Please note that for project presentations, all even numbered teams will present
    on Dec 03, 2002.
All the odd numbered teams will present on Dec 10, 2002.
  • All project related materials that are due for submission, should be submitted by ALL teams on Dec 03, 2002 regardless of which day they are slotted for presentations.
  • If you have taken CSci588 with Professor Jacobs and have an A or atleast an A- on the course and if you would be interested in being the TA or grader for the class for Fall 2003, please email your resume to Professor Jacobs, stating your interest for the position.

11/13/2002

    Thanks for your patience.

11/12/2002

The missing pages will be made available tomorrow. Sorry for the bother!

  • There was some confusion about the exact date of the final exam.
For your clarification, please note that the final exam for this class will be held on
    December 17, 2002 at 6.30pm PST.

11/11/2002

  • Professor Jacobs will not attend in person the class on 11/12/02. There will be a video of his lecture at that time, however. Homework is still due and will be collected at 6:30PM PST by the TA/grader. A series of videos from ACM CHI 2002 will be shown at the end of the taped lecture on 11/12/02. Students can earn extra credit if they submit a short assessment or critique of some or all of those videos (individual assignment, not team).
  • Class will resume normal schedule Tuesday 11/19/02

10/16/2002

  • Project Presentations coming up:
Even team numbers present projects 10-22-02
Odd team numbers present projects 10-29-02
Bring 2 hardcopies to hand in, 1 for Professor, 1 for TA/grader

Give the TA Deepa the URL or a PPT presentation to post your project to the class web site for extra credit

10/07/2002

  • Professor Jacobs honored student requests to post an old exam for the first time. He wishes you to know that he gave that class different study instructions, used a different course textbook, and did not cover the subject matter in the order he uses now. Therefore, he recommends you do NOT complete the exam for practice. However, this old exam will illustrate a sample of his test writing style.
