X-Win32 Instructions

(Updated on 9/8/2003, by Sultan)

In the labs, we will be working on aludra from the Windows XP machines in SAL127. Once your computer is up and running, look at the menu of programs on the right hand side of the screen. Under "Internet Tools" should be "X-Win32" Launch the X-Win32 program.

You need to create a session for the class:

  1. Right click on the "X" icon near the clock in the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Click on "X-config".
  3. Choose Display tab.
  4. Select second IP address from the list, the one starts with 128.xxx etc. DO NOT click OK yet. Just click on Session tab.
  5. From Session tab, click on "wizard" button.
  6. Select "rexec" as the connection method.
  7. Type "aludra.usc.edu" as the Unix host.
  8. Login as you would to your email account.
  9. Select "SunOS (Solaris)" as the host. - this will ensure that the right command line is passed to aludra on the connection.
  10. Name the session, "cs201" for example, and check the "launch the session now" box.
If you want to open this session later, or want more than one session at the same time, simply click on the X icon, then point to sessions and choose cs201 (or whatever you named it at step 10).
