Chicanos and Latinos

for

Health Education

The USC chapter of Chicanos/Latinos for Health Education (CHE) is a volunteer organization open to all who share in our vision to reduce health disparities both at home and abroad.  We conduct health fairs, have a peer mentorship program with area high school students interested in the health professions, and are certified by the State of California to sign needy children up for free health insurance through the Healthy Families program.  We have an annual trip to Tijuana to provide vital primary care services to an under-privileged neighborhood with the aid of local doctors and medical students.

During the academic year, the organization offers peer and academic support for its members through student groups, weekly meetings, and cultural gatherings. CHE invites guest speakers such as USC Alumni, doctors and other professionals to discuss their careers as well as entry into medical school: the application process, MCAT preparation, interviews, summer enrichment programs, and postbaccalaureate programs.

Members also learn about other health-related careers; the community not only needs medical doctors, but also dentists, chiropractors, physical therapists, etc.  Greater knowledge of what careers are available to those interested in the health professions facilitates making career decisions and following complex admissions processes.
