Christine Yu PhD Piano Performance, Piano Instruction

About Christine Yu

Christine YuChristine Yu began her study of the piano at the age of five. Capturing the audience's heart at an early age, she received multiple top prizes in various SYMF categories, Cypress, CAPMT, and Orange County Philharmonic Society. Chosen to tour elementary schools as part of the Musical Encounters Program, she also had the opportunity to spark increased appreciation of music among her peers.

Miss Yu received continual acclaim as a teenager, where she was awarded the Top Category Award of the Pacific Music Society Junior Auxiliary Music Scholarship, took first place in the Music Teacher's Association of California (MTAC) State Concerto Competition - Division III, and was awarded both the Orchestra Prize at the Santa Clara University Concerto Competition and First Prize in the East Bay Piano Competition, Senior Division. The Young Artist Guild at the MTAC State Convention in Los Angeles also presented Miss Yu with the coveted Rodetsky Award.

Christine graduated from Stanford University with Honors in 2002, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Music - Piano Performance. Each year, Stanford University presents a graduating senior from one of the five performing and creative art departments: creative writing, art, drama dance, and music, with a prize, recognizing the individual's contributions and achievements; Miss Yu was given this honor of receiving the Louis Sudler Prize in the Performing and Creative Arts at Stanford University. As a young adult, Christine was also awarded first prize at the MTAC State Concerto Competition - Division IV, first prize in the Pacific Symphony Orchestra Showcase for Young Musicians, first prize in the 2002 Edith Knox Performance Competitions, winner of the Berkeley Piano Club's Dorothy Van Waynen Piano Award, winner of the Oakland East Bay Symphony's Young Artist Competition, and was also the recipient of the Mu Phi Epsilon 2002 Music Scholarship.

She also enjoys participating in summer music programs such as the Oberlin Music Festival and the Aspen Music Festival, as well as performing for various benefit events.

Through the tutelage and inspiration of Norman Krieger, John Perry, Thomas Schultz, and Jed Galant, Christine has developed a wealth of knowledge and an inspiring style, both as a performer and as a teacher.
