When
Tryouts are held in late September. Specific dates will be posted in August. Sign up at the Fall Involvement Fair (in late August) or send us an email to get on the tryout emailing list.
Typically, tryouts are from 5-7pm on Thursday, 5-7pm on Friday, and 10am on Saturday.
Procedure
Bring this form filled out to tryouts on the first day, along with your insurance information.
Tryouts are from Thursday to Saturday. On Thursday, everyone learns a dance and a cheer, and stunt groups are formed by the Coach. Friday is a review session with more stunting practice, and Saturday is the actual tryout.
Everyone will tryout in their stunt groups in front of 3-5 judges. Two people from the stunt group will perform jumps, any tumbling, and the dance they learned. The other two people from the same stunt group will then do the same. After that, all four members will perform the cheer and stunts.
Results from tryouts are emailed that afternoon.
Please note: There will not be much time for tumbling practice, so if you need to tumble before Saturday, book an individual class at LA School of Gymnastics and practice before tryouts start. There will be no spotters for tumbling in tryouts, and the floor will be non-spring.
Requirements
1. Student must be full-time (at least 12 units per semester, undergraduate or graduate)
2. Student must be able to attend every practice, with exceptions only for UNEXPECTED situations such as death in family, serious illness, etc.
3. Student must be able to attend every performance, without exception (see Calendar for specific dates)
4. A standing backhandspring is strongly recommended
5. Flyers must demonstrate all three splits and be willing to learn back-tuck basket tosses
6. Experience in high school stunting is strongly recommended
Exceptions to Tryouts
If for some reason you cannot attend regular tryouts, a video may be submitted to the coach at the address below. However, you may not miss any practices which start in October, so if you are a Spring admit you must wait until the next season to be on the competitive team. To tryout by video, mail a DVD of your toetouch, pike, hurdlers, hurkeys, a cheer, a dance, your best stunts, and your best standing & running tumbling passes to:
