My Teaching Philosophy |
|
|
I’ve had too many teachers in the past who have been overly concerned with memorizing facts are preparing students for tests. Students are bored with class, school, and develop a resistant and negative attitude towards learning in general. Instead, in my classroom, I hope to inspire a love for learning at an early age. Learning is more fun and meaningful if it is experienced in a way that is relevant to the students’ lives, not when it is merely read from a textbook. Children should be encouraged to be curious, to discover, to participate, and to think critically and creatively. This will spark a lifelong desire to learn and discover. Besides an early desire to learn, young children need a place to develop and grow. My classroom will be a safe place where each student will be encouraged intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Children need someone to believe in them- refining their weaknesses while praising their strengths. The ultimate goal in education is to provide students with the tools to succeed in the world. Therefore, it is vital to set up in the elementary classroom a love of learning and inquiry that will benefit students not only in school, but throughout life.
