Research interests:

     - what is ‘focus’

     - optional word order movements

     - psycholinguistics, pragmatics, semantics, and cognition

I am a graduate student working towards a PhD in linguistics.

My current research studies focus.  Ultimately, I would like to help in developing a complete definition of focus, but, for the time being, it still remains to determine which of the attributes frequently associated with focus (contrast, newness, exhaustivity, etc) are actually a part of the same phenomenon and which need independent explanations.

I am a firm a believer that theoretical predictions can be tested using methods learned from experimental psychology and that such testing, combined with an understanding of the processes and limitations of the cognitive system, can improve the accuracy of theoretical linguistics.
