Identify the single.

Poster at http://www.art-for-a-change.com/Paris/paris2.html

2) What is the site http://www.kissthisguy.com all about? And funda behind the name.

## The site is an archive of misheard lyrics. It is named after supposedly the world's most commonly misheard lyric, which is a line from Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze which goes "scuse me while I kiss the sky" which is misheard as "'scuse me while I kiss this guy."

There's also a story at the site which claims that Hendrix has more than once goofed around with the lyrics of Purple Haze and actually sang "kiss this guy" at concerts.

3) Part filipino. Born November 18th, 1962 San Francisco, CA. Tattoo around his belly button: "Made in SF 11-18-62." Founding member of SF band Exodus which opened twice for Metallica between 11/82-3/83. Took guitar lessons from Joe Satriani. Guess Who?

## Kirk Hammett.

4) Identify the song:
Now I lay me down to sleep
Blah, blah, blah my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
I'll go to hell for heaven's sake
Clue: No it's not Metallica's Enter Sandman

## Megadeth's Go To Hell from the album Hidden Treasures, released in 1995. Metallica's Enter Sandman from The Black Album, was released in 1991.

5) Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's The Decline and Fall of the City of * (1930) was memorably recorded as "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)". * was the Brecht's name for a mythical boom town where the only capital crime is to be without money. What is *?

## Mahagonny

6) On Stoned Immaculate: The Music of the Doors is a tribute album featuring various artists, if John Lee Hooker raps along with Morrison on Roadhouse blues who recites Is Everybody In?

## William Seward Burroughs

7) The group's latest album which was released in '99 is called Metropolis 2: Scenes From A Memory. This concept album is a follow-up to a song called Metropolis 1: The Miracle and The Sleeper, which was featured in their 2nd album.

M2:SFAM centers around a man in modern time named Nicholas, who through the wonders of hypnosis discovers that in a former life he was a woman named Victoria who was brutally murdered at a very young age. Identify the group.

## Dream Theater

8) Connect the band in Q7 with ytsejam and the groups Nightmare Cinema and G3.

## Ytsejam is a song by Dream Theater and is Majesty (the band's original name) in reverse their logo/symbol borrowed from Mary Queen of Scot's Insignia. In 1987 a Las Vegas band forced a name change and Mike Portnoy's father suggested they use the name of a California movie theater, and the name Dream Theater was chosen.

A fun thing the band does occasionally at concerts is that the members switch instruments (Mike Portnoy plays bass and Petrucci on drums, Myung on keys and James LaBrie still on vocals) and they call themselves Nighmare Cinema. The set list consists of "Perfect Strangers" and Ozzy's "Suicide Solution" with Mike Portnoy on vocals. Thanx to Sankalpa Bhattacharya for this funda who played the audio in a quiz 2 years back. Interesting word play Dream Theater <=> Nightmare Cinema.

John Petrucci of DT tours with G3 due to Eric Johnson's busy schedule.

Given a point if you mentioned John Petrucci. I didn't frame the questions properly. I was looking for the entire connect!

Q9, Q10, Q11, Q12 Proceed w/ caution. Long question ahead.
Enamored with Terry XXX's Rainbow in Curved Air (1969), in which a variety of organ sounds are altered in pitch and the recorded tape spliced and looped into unusual rhythmic patterns, YYY began similar experiments at home. The looped patterns he developed became the groundwork for the song "____ ______", which pays tribute to XXX and ZZZ.

Sleeve notes from the album featuring the song: "This was a number I wrote while I was doing these experiments with tapes on the synthesizer." Among my plans was to take a person out of the audience and feed information - height, weight, autobiographical details - about the person into the synthesizer. The synthesizer would then select notes from the pattern of that person. It would be like translating a person into music. On this particular track I programmed details about the life of ZZZ and that provided the backing for the song."

ZZZ was born Merwan Irani of Persian parents, raised in India and educated at an English school in Poona. In 1925 he spoke for the last time and maintained a silence for 44 years, until his death. Parvardigar is a song written by YYY adopted from ZZZ's universal prayer song.

Who are XXX, YYY, ZZZ and what is the song (the blanks)?

## XXX - Terry Riley, YYY - Pete Townshend, ZZZ - Meher Baba and the song Baba O'Riley

13) He rose to cult status in the 80's with his Buffalo, NY based band Talas. David Lee Roth recruited him when DLR left Van Halen in '85 and formed his own band which also had Steve Vai. Then in 1989 he formed Mr. Big.

Mr. Big covered the song talked about in Q8 with Paul Gilbert playing the synth parts on guitar and this guy playing the violin solo part on bass. He has toured with G3 and is currently touring with Vai. Who is the bassist?

## Billy Sheehan

14) This axe-man was born on September 20th 1966 in Azores, Portugal and has Duarte Gil Mendes as his middle name(s). He meet Gary Cherone who had a band with drummer Paul Geary called The Dream and formed a band whose name is a re-working of The Dream. Identify Guitarist/band. (Clue: Their second album was about a kid called Li'l Jack Horny)

## Nuno Bettencourt

15) George Melies, the llusionist made a 13 minute film called "Voyage to the Moon" (1902) and got his inspiration from two Jules Verne novels "From the Earth to the Moon" and "Around the Moon." The question is which video has similar frame to frame sequence as in the Melies'short. (Clue: Alternative rock band featuring a moon-faced vocalist and a rhythm guitarist of Japanese descent)

## Smashing Pumpkins. Song: Tonite, Tonite.

There's a story floating around that Billy Corgan is the kid from Small Wonder but unfortunately it's untrue. Thanx to Siva Jayaraman for this.

If you waded through this far here's another funda, courtsey Crudo Cruox and Vineet Khunger:

Dream Theater released Live scenes from New York on Sept 11th and the cover featured a burning apple similar to the burning heart from Images and Words/Live At The Marque cover art work. On the top of the apple engulfed in flames were the World Trade Center, State of Liberty and the NY skyline. The album was recalled from sale. The album went of sale Oct. 16th with the band's Majesty symbol replacing the the burning apple.
