Troy Music to Open at USC

University of Southern California, Los Angeles (January 10, 2004)—Introducing Troy Music, the University of Southern California’s first on-campus music store dedicated to serving the student community. Troy Music specializes in selling used CD’s, and consigned music from USC’s own student artists, in-store and online. The store is located in the Commons area of campus, making it easy and convenient for students to visit.

Troy Music, originally created for a class assignment by 4 students while attending USC, becomes reality today as the store opens for the first time at 9am. Troy Music has brought representatives from many of major labels out for today’s grand opening to give a chance to student bands for their music to be heard.

USC students have never had the opportunity to enjoy a music store aimed at both musicians and music buyers. That is why our promise to the USC community is to sell music at competitive prices, making it convenient and worthwhile for students to purchase music. “The fact is that USC needed a music store to cater to those bands who need exposure for themselves, while at the same time selling used CD’s that appeal to the larger student population,” stated Brian Barr, Vice President of Sales. A bonus for students that want to purchase music at Troy Music is that they are allowed to buy items on their discretionary accounts.

In addition to distributing music, Troy Music assists in promoting the bands and sell ing their music. Special concerts and performances will be held throughout the year at the 901 Club, located just north of campus. We understand the difficultly of a new band making a name for themselves. That is why we will work hard to help spread the word about our featured bands. “We have the unique opportunity to go out there and provide a service to students that we always wanted as undergrads,” stated Keller Sechrest, President of Troy Music. This upcoming Thursday January 13, USC own student band, Common Knowledge will be performing at the 901 Club to kick off Troy Music’s concerts.

Digital music player users will be happy to hear that our website offers students the opportunity to buy-and-download digital music of what we already sell in the on-campus store. Users will be able to check out bands that we are promoting to the USC community, along with information about upcoming concerts and events.

The on-campus store is open Monday – Friday 9am-6:30pm and special hours on event days. Troy Music is for USC, created from the minds of USC students.
