The best Los Angeles Clubs
Introduction
Choosing the best Los Angeles clubs is really a pretty hopeless task. With so many fantastic LA clubs to chose from - which ones should you mention and which ones should you leave out? Whether you’re a student at USC or just a regular resident living in LA, the main place that you’d head for expecting to find some of the best clubs in Los Angeles is Sunset Boulevard. You’ll also find a great selection along the beach front at Santa Monica and along Third Street Promenade, as well as some interesting places Downtown.
The best Los Angeles clubs on Sunset Boulevard
Not only are these some of the best Los Angeles clubs, they’re also some of the most famous clubs in the world. We’ll travel west to east along The Strip and the first stop has to be at The Viper Room, just before Holloway Drive. Sadly the place where River Phoenix died after his drink and drugs binge in 1993 - The Viper Room is co-owned by Johnny Deep who regularly hangs out there and performs with his band. Live music, Johnny Cash played his famous solo concert here a short time before he died, is very much the scene here. But, also to be seen here are the likes of anyone from Tom Hanks to Gwen Stefani. An important note for The Viper Room is - over 21s only! Next stop is the former site of the 1940s nightclub - Ciro’s, which since 1976 has been the home of The Comedy Store. Another of the best Los Angeles clubs it’s not so much which comedians have played here as which haven’t. Obviously depending which act is on, admission prices to The Comedy Store start at just $15. Just after Olive Drive is The House of Blues, owned by another actor - Dan Ackroyd; well surprise, surprise! Quite probably as a ‘nod’ to the fame that the film ‘The Blues Brothers’ brought to him, Dan and his other co-owners had this tin-roofed blues bar moved all the way from Clarkesville Mississippi - so don’t doubt the authenticity of what you see and experience inside. Although this is one of a franchise of ‘HoBs’ it is definitely the best Los Angeles club to just listen to the blues or better still to listen to the blues and party. You’ll find a range of young and upcoming artists, tribute bands and some great established stars performing here like John Hiatt and the ‘Queen of Soul’ herself, Aretha Franklin. Finally on The Strip, probably the most revered rock club in the world, at 8901 Sunset Boulevard is the Whisky A Go Go. In terms of big name acts in the last forty plus years, probably only Elvis Presley and The Beatles haven’t played here. Full of history and memories The Whisky A Go Go still has acts like Avril Lavigne playing to full houses.
Where are the best clubs in Los Angeles off The Strip?
Some of the best clubs in Los Angeles off The Strip include; The Polo Lounge in the Beverley Hills Hotel. OK, so we’re perhaps out of USC student budgets here, but you did ask the question. Spinning off in a completely different direction from the Sunset Boulevard LA clubs, The Polo Lounge oozes sophistication and style. Not, of course that you’ll need telling that as this place is located in one of the world’s most renowned hotels. The Polo Lounge is more about wining and dining than anything as frenetic as dancing. However, if you’re into small Jazz bands and singers - this is the place go. If you’re looking for the best club in Los Angeles offering all-night dancing with a party atmosphere, then visit The Mansion on Sunset Plaza. Drinks and food are available as well as some great sounds from Techno to Hip-Hop, Reggae to Trance and R&B to House music. If you fancy something a little more alternative, try the Club 740 in Downtown LA on the corner of 8th and Spring Street. A nightclub in the true sense of the word there are three dance floors, private booths and VIP skyboxes, all ready to give you a great night out.
