Updates on Car Insurance News
Realising that there are grave issues when it comes to health care in America, Barrack Obama said that most health care expenses come during the final years of life, when it’s too late anyway. If we looked at people as we look at cars, we’d all understand that you just don’t care as much about dings and dents and leaky oil pans on the older models’, he said and pointed out that he is still toying with his Mandated Plan for Insurances to improve the health care system in the US, including car insurances, because the rates of people who do own a car insurance in America doubled from 10 percent to shockingly 20 percent in the last year alone, according to recent reports, With implementation of that system Barrack Obama slowly conditions the US Car Insurance System to the German Car Insurance System.
Wisconsin’s Mandatory
Less than a year away, on June 1st, 2010 people of Wisconsin await becoming the 49th US state to require drivers to have liability insurance and Governor Jim Doyle included the measure as a part of the state budget. American Insurance companies say that some of the factors that contribute to how much an insurance company will charge you for coverage are for example, where you live, your credit score and your driving record. If you’re caught without proof of liability insurance after June of 2010 you can expect a fine, just as it is the case in Germany.
New Report
Last week a new report about the top 10 foods that cause car wrecks and higher premiums was published. Obviously, eating while driving is one of the most distracting and dangerous things one can do and according to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involve driver distraction, ‘Distraction was most likely to be involved in rear-end collisions in which the lead vehicle was stopped, as well as in single-vehicle crashes’. Insurance companies increase the rates after just one accident as much as 25 percents. The NHTSA published their report including a list of top 10 foods to avoid while driving your vehicle. Above all, the most accident causing food is coffee, because even with a travel lid, hot coffee can find its way out of the opening when you hit a bump. In this list you find hot soup on rank 2, followed by Tacos, Chilli Dogs, Hamburgers, ribs and wings, Fried Chicken, Jelly Doughnuts, Soda and Chocolate.
More Reasons
Though the food reason is widespread there are several other problems existing, why the number of car crashes increased in the past few years. The NHTSA study cites, besides the food report, that other driver distractions are the top reason for car crashes and ultimately higher vehicle insurance rates, above all using a cell-phone and reaching for a moving object. But also looking at an object or event outside of the vehicle, reading or even applying makeup are main reasons for increasing car insurance rates caused by accident through one of these reasons.
Hybrid Cars
Car Insurance companies try to dish out discounts for so-called green car drivers, because they believe them to be more responsible about their environment, keep their speed in check to keep fuel consumption low and are therefore less likely to have accidents, but a study by San Francisco Quality Planning, which looked into hybrid car owner’s driving habits, found out something different.
Surveying the owners of about 360,000 cars (a range of cars between fuel and hybrid) they reported that while drivers of hybrids have commuting distances similar to those of conventional vehicle drivers. Hybrid drivers get more tickets than those who do not own a hybrid car and hybrid cars also cost more to repair than their conventional counterparts.
