My name is Craig Bartosh and I live in Dallas, Texas, and work for a land surveying and mapping company in the city of Greenville, Texas, just east of Dallas. The majority of our work involves traditional land surveying practices, but we also provide mapping and GIS services, specializing as consultants for small to mid-sized government entities. I received a Bachelor’s of Science in GIS from Texas A&M University in December 2006, and unfortunately still have my allegiance to their sports teams, as hard as that is to admit sometimes.
Spring 2012 is my fourth and final semester as a Master’s student in the GIST program at USC. Only Web GIS and a completed thesis stand between me and a Master’s degree. I am interested in Web GIS because of the opportunity to learn the tools necessary to produce and publish GIS maps on the web. Personally, I have never worked on any Web GIS projects myself (besides providing publishers with data to display on a web site), but the thought of displaying maps in real-time and the ability for the end user to perform GIS analysis on a web site intrigues me. Learning the basics of broadcasting GIS maps on the Internet will diversify our company’s consulting services.
