"Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not?" - George Bernard Shaw Assalam-o-alaikum, I am a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Information Sciences Institute (ISI). I completed my PhD in Computer Science from University Of Southern California (USC) in 2009 with the dissertation title Understanding and Exploiting the Acoustic Propagation Delay in Underwater Sensor Networks. I am affiliated with the ISI Laboratory for Embedded Networked Sensor Experimentation (I-LENSE) Lab. My primary interest is to help develop an energy-transference architecture for wireless sensor networks. I am also currently involved in underwater sensor networks, network time-synchronization, high-latency medium access control design, and industrial wireless-mesh networking. On May 14th, 2008 I was initiated in the Phi Kappa Phi honour society, USA's oldest and most selective all-discipline society honoring academic excellence. I was one of only 32 university-wide (3,000+) PhD students invited to join this selective society, representing the computer science department at USC. |
On Feb. 26, 2009 I succesfully defended my thesis titled "Understanding and Exploiting the Propagation Delay in Acoustic Sensor Networks".
Cricket (of course... I am a Pakistani after all), Squash (even got a scar on my chin , thanks to ....,to prove it), Tennis , Badminton (love playing this game), Basket Ball, Swimming.
Movies, specially the pure adrenaline pumping action adventure, ones. But my favorites are mostly not from the pure action genre e.g. : BraveHeart, Dead man walking, Lord of the Rings, Matrix 1, Scarface.
I love to travel, as the numerous pictures above will testify, and appreciate the beauty of nature and human architecture. I have visited lots of places in USA: Los Angeles (duh!!!), San Franciso, Yosemite, San Diego, Santa Barbra, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Grand Canyon, Boston, Cape Cod, New York, Seattle, Reno, Bakersfield, Matha's Vineyard, Dallas, College Station, Houston, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Key West. I have also visited many places outside of USA including, Barcelona, Zurcih, Geneva, Interlaken, Bern, Qatar, Montreal, Singapore. While nearly all of these were for attending conferences/workshops, I enjoyed the excitement of interacting with new people and cultures. Traveling might be daunting for some but being tech savy makes it quite east. Besides, it's become a lot easier to arrange a travel now that there are plenty of resources like this one, advising on restaurants, landmarks, accommodation and finding the best deals possible.
Intellectual discourse about the meaning of our lives, politics, us and Islam - about once every month.
Books - all types. fiction (Ludlum, Cussler, Archer, Clancy), Science fiction (Dune), historical (Sword of Allah, Guns, Germs and Steel), classics (Illiad, Much ado about nothing).
