Syed, Affan Ahmed

PhD. candidate, Computer Science.

Affan Ahmed

"Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not?" - George Bernard Shaw

Assalam-o-alaikum,

I am a PhD candidate at the Computer Science Department, University Of Southern California , advised by John Heidemann and co-advised by Wei Ye. Currently I am affiliated with the I-LENSE Lab at ISI.  I am currently part of the SNUSE project, where we plan to extend sensor networks to the more challenging underwater acoustic domain. This website will, hopefully, give you a flavor of what I am and what I aspire to become (the quote above will give you a hint).

On May 14th, 2008 I was initiated in the Phi Kappa Phi honour society, USA's oldest and most selective all-discipline society honoring academic excellence. I was one of only 32 university-wide (3,000+) PhD students invited to join this selective society, representing the computer science department at USC.

Caution: This is a typically self aggrandizing introduction by a PhD candidate :).

Résumé:

UPDATE:

I was recently blessed by Allah with a sweet "flower of paradise" Zunaira Affan.

  4. Intellectual discourse about the meaning of our lives, state of the world, Islam - about once every month.

  5. Books - all types. fiction (Ludlum, Cussler, Archer, Clancy), Science fiction (Dune), historical (Sword of Allah), classics (Illiad, Much ado about nothing).
