Tripti Gupta
Secretary/Historian (1)
Sophomore Rep (2)
I believe that I am a qualifying candidate for being the secretary of ASBME because I have had lots of experience as a secretary before for other clubs and organizations, that will help me to fulfill my role here to the fullest. I am a dedicated member who has attended every single meeting and almost all of the other events we have held. I would like to provide my help in reaching this club to new heights and increasing the size of our club. I would like to plan more events and invite more speakers so that our members continue to receive benefits and insights regarding the Biomedical Engineering field. I am a committed member and if chosen, will definitely be an asset to the club!

Samuel Lin
Chair of Corporate Affairs (1)
Secretary/Historian (2)

Sophomore Rep (3)

I wish to apply for these positions because I wish to be more involved in ASBME. As the freshman representative, I observed and learned quite a lot about how the club ran, what types of events we should hold, and what considerations had to be taken (food, money, etc.), and I am willing to continue contributing what I can to organize and run events.

I held the position of secretary for a community service club in high school, and managed communications and applications with other cabinet members. Though I am not quite ready to serve on day one, I'm still willing to learn by example and experience.

President
After serving as Treasurer this year, I would really like to become more directly involved in communicating with members, the greater undergraduate student body, and engineering faculty and staff to serve as a liaison between these groups. I would also like to play a greater role in planning and publicizing upcoming events for ASBME members. I work well with others and have especially enjoyed being part of the E-board team this year. To those who are graduating next year, it has been a pleasure working with you and good luck in future endeavors. And to those who remain, I look forward to working together to make ASBME an all-around awesome student organization on campus!

Sarah Jie-Hye Park

Sophomore Rep

As probably most people who know me can tell, I am a very creative individual, who is also hard-working, focused, and diligent. I have had much experience being in E-board when I was in high school, and even ran a club of my own for three years: The Graphic Arts and Web Design Club. As a current member of the ASBME, I have noticed there exists very little representation for my class, even though there clearly exists so many ways in which activities and opportunities in the field of biomedical engineering could be explored and presented. I believe that professional organizations such as ASBME are extremely important in the success and academic prosperity of its students. Furthermore, as an office assistant of the Biomedical Engineering Department, I think I would also be able to help out facilitate events/activities with ASBME, while giving more insightful information and professionally presenting ASBME at the frontdesk. As far as I know, there has been a lack of adequate communication between asbme and the frontdesk, which could now be solved through my asistance! :)

Sheylan Patel

Treasurer (1)
Junior Rep (2)

I'm interested in running for Junior Rep or Treasurer because I've really enjoyed being part of ASBME and I'd like to get involved. ASBME has provided me with many great opportunities to meet other BMEs, and also provided me with great experiences such as touring the MRI lab. While I have no previous experience with board positions, I feel this would be a good opportunity for me not only to learn, but also to try and help make ASBME an even better organization. I think this club could benefit from more lab tours, and an ASBME test bank, for example. I know that as a student looking for research opportunities, networking with doctors such as Dr. Tjan is really helpful for finding a research project in the future. As well, I can see the benefits of a test bank as my dental honors society has one because it provides students with extra practice before their midterm. As far as personal attributes, I'm hard working and dedicated and strive to do things right the first time. Finally, next year I will have plenty of time to dedicate to this club because I have front loaded my first two years of college. Therefore starting next semester, I'll have a very light course load, providing me ample time to go above and beyond my responsibilities for this club.

Mercedes Perez

Senior Rep

My name is Mercedes and I am a Junior majoring in Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering. I am currently the Junior Representative of ASBME this year and am running for the position of Senior Representative next year. This year went really well and I enjoyed helping to organize meetings and events for the general membership. I hope to be elected for the Senior Rep position and look forward to another fun year with ASBME!

Sapna Shah
Vice President

After being involved as a Sophomore Representative this year, I really want to get more involved in ASBME. I want to work closely with corporate representatives, faculty, staff and students and set up the best corporate events for BME students ever. BME students really need to see what's out there and I plan to help them do so with the Annual Corporate Luncheon and luncheons with separate companies (if possible). The market is very narrow for BME students and I want to help them discover as much of the market as there is.

After working with ASBME for one year, and being an officer in SWE for a year, I feel that I definitely have the leadership qualities needed for the position. I also know how to work well with people with different personalities and that is a very important quality while working in an organization. I am ready to give ASBME as much time as needed if elected. I really want to help make ASBME one of the best organizations on campus and I really hope I get elected!

DJ Strouse

Chair of Student Affairs (1)
Chair of Corporate Affairs (2)

Junior Rep (3)

I only attended my first ASBME event, the MRI lab tour, the week before spring break. Where have you been all my life ASBME? The lab tour was phenomenal; the presenter elucidated the physics behind an MRI (a saving grace for any current Phys 152 student struggling to figure out what he can ever expect to do with his newfound knowledge of 'magnetic moments') and offered a fascinating demonstration of the machine in action. Ice cream sandwiches and meeting plenty of great people sealed the deal. I am applying to the ASBME board because I loved this event and want to help create more of them. Whether I do this as a liaison between the club and faculty (Chair of Student Affairs), the club and corporations (Chair of Corporate Affairs), or the club and my class (Sophomore/Junior Class Rep) is up to your discretion. In any case, I've gained plenty of experience in faculty, corporate, and student affairs as a project co-lead and executive board member of Engineers Without Borders. I've also met with several members of the BME faculty including Dr. Gerald Loeb, Dr. Zhong-Lin Lu, and Dr. Ellis Meng in pursuit of learning more about and getting involved in their research and my familiarity with them would be helpful in finding new events and speakers.

Chair of Student Affairs (1)
Senior Representative (2)

I would like to improve a few things that have seemed unsatisfactory to me at USC over the years. First, the events should be well publicized and organized to maintain quality and integrity of the event. I few events need to reach out to faculty and engineering students more. In terms of the other organizations, I would like more collaboration within the clubs under Viterbi Student Council. Finally I would like to begin improving the engineering community in terms of relationships between students, faculty, and administration. I have been in the engineering major for three years now, and I feel there is a disjunction between students and faculty. I also feel since administration is mainly interested in faculty research, academic priority has decreased. I believe there needs to be changes from within Viterbi that will set teaching standards.
