Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

We are the USC anime club, founded in 1888 by Mariano Elepano, raging japanophile and current staff in the cinema school. Since then, many famous USC alumni have graced our club - nearly all of them, though not O.J. Simpson. However, the days have long passed where the power of the anime club could break any faculty member who dared arouse its ire; these days we are a peaceful club, quietly going about our otaku ways.

What do you do?

We watch anime. We also eat. There are many eaters in this club; indeed, I don't believe it's possible to find any other club on campus with a greater percentage of members who eat. Between, and occasionally during these activities, we also talk. Largely, the talk is over anime, manga, video games, comics, computers, and other topics closely associated with the geek community. On occasion, Dungeons and Dragons has made an appearance as a topic of conversation. Never fear, however. Even if you yourself are not nerd, geek, nor otaku, you will still be welcome within our community.

As for our other official activities, those who wish to sit out on a particular episode of anime can engage in doujin gaming in the hallway or projection room; bring your own laptop if you don't want to wait for your own turn. As well, various members conduct workshops on topics dear to anime fandom, such as cosplay, creating anime music videos, and dancing the Hare Hare Yukai dance (from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). On occasion, a member may host a series marathon, pitting our endurance against endless consecutive hours of anime.

When and where do you do what you do?

Club meetings are on Thursday from 8-10 pm with Sunday meetings from 4-7 pm in WPH B28.

Does this club officially endorse Pocky?

The club does not officially endorse Pocky or any other food. Should your company wish for us to endorse a product, please e-mail us at anime@usc.edu with the name of the product and how much you are willing give us for the endorsement, and we will consider opening negotiations depending on the merits of the offer.
