Founded in 1961, Amnesty International is a grassroots activist organization whose one-million strong members are dedicated to freeing prisoners of conscience, to gaining fair trials for political prisoners, to ending torture, political killings and "disappearances," and to abolishing the death penalty throughout the world. Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is the U.S. Section of this international human rights movement.
Amnesty International works to:
The USC chapter of Amnesty International USA is extremely involved as Freedom Writers and as part of the Urgent Action Network. Biweekly meetings are scheduled and the organization is completely student-led.
Take Back the Night: Thank you to everyone who participated in this successful event. Our booth talked about prostitution (world and domestic). Everyone did a wonderful job!
Memorandum on death penalty: Thank you for everyone involved with this petition to stop death penalty. Because of everyone's commitment and help, we have received more signatures than expected. Thank you again for your devotion to important causes!
Amnesty International mini SoCal Conference: several members attended this meeting and according to them, it was deemed a success. In this conference, they meet many people from other Amnesty Clubs throughout this region. As a result, USC Amnesty now has better connections and resources. Thank you for everyone who attended this conference!
Speakers, Misc., and everything else I have missed: Thank you to all of our speakers throughout the school year, all the students/faculty that attended the meetings and speaker series, and thank you to all of our members who made this year very successful for Amnesty.
Come next school year for more exiting events!!
