Students can qualify for membership in ALD by maintaining a full course of study and attaining a minimum scholastic average exactly halfway between the two highest grades given by the school. Eligibility may be determined on the basis of the first semester of the first year of college enrollment.
Once initiated, the student becomes a lifetime member of ALD, with the chance of being an officer during their sophomore year. Initiated members become eligible for sophomore book awards and $3000 fellowships awarded for graduate study.
