how I password protect the system:
I made a directory called passwd and then using the  htpasswd utility that camewith Apache created a file called passwords and assigned two user names and passwords which are: username: maryam    password: marjan
                            csci351             student
and then I set my configuration files to use the password file, so that for theuser would have to  eneter username and password to enetr confirm.pl
